Mental Health Consulting

More than 1 in 5 adults in the United States suffer from a mental health disorder, and 8.2% of children.

What is mental health?

Mental health is an incredibly broad category that covers your cognitive, behavioral, and emotional well-being. According to the World Health Organization, mental health is “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community."

This broad definition of what it is to be in a good state of mental health also reflects the number of areas where a mental health

disorder can have a negative impact.

Mental health has long been misunderstood and misdiagnosed largely because the human brain remains a mystery. Thanks to sobering statistics about the toll that poor mental health exacts, new light is being shone on the problem. The mental health community is stepping up with innovative therapies that improve lives and take the stigma out of mental health.

What are the most common mental health issues?

Under the broad heading of mental health there are 200 classified forms of mental illness, chief among them:

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Major depressive disorders

  • Panic disorders

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

  • Eating disorders

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorders

  • Attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder

  • Bipolar disorder

  • Schizophrenia disorders

  • Substance use disorders

This list merely scratches the surface of mental health disorders, but the bottom line is that anything that dictates your behavior, your emotions, and your cognitive abilities in negative ways is classified as a mental health illness.

How are mental health issues treated?

At Unmasked Counseling, Consulting, & Psychological Services  the team of highly trained professionals brings a number of different psychotherapeutic tools to bear when trying to improve mental health, including:

  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy

  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Neurofeedback

This list is by no means comprehensive, as the clinicians individualize each treatment program to the patient, not the disease. The combined experience and expertise of the large group of mental health care professionals ensure that each patient has access to the care they need.
